Fixed Gear Bikes

fixed gear bikeI know, I know…some people really hate them, and other people really like them…it’s hit or miss with fixed gear bikes.  But something you can’t help but notice in the sneaker world is that, a lot of people who love exclusive sneakers love fixed gear bikes.  I guess its just something about the wild colors and how customizable the bikes can be…not even kidding, I have seen dudes bring their fixed gears into the sneaker shop and match shoes to their bike…its all about matching and looking tight i guess.  fixed gear bikes are pretty cool sometimes, but with everything, people can take it a little too far sometimes.  Leave a comment and let us know your personal opinion on the whole fixed gear bike craze.

At least they are on a bike and not in a car… If more people would ride a bike for short errands to the store, etc. it could make a big impact on the planet. I ride a fixed gear because I am not feeble and I love the feel of being almost like one with the bike… Plus I’m not feeble and don’t need sissy gears to get around my somewhat hill town.

    i run a trek 1.5 and a self-converted fixie
love them both, but part of the fun of fixed wheel for me is the huge amount of customisation. if i want a different part, i can buy it, switch it and ride it without having to go down to the lbs and ask for help fitting stuff.
also, it’s nice to have two distinctly different bikes so that i can pick a different one to ride every now and again.

fads may be fads, but as long as they are getting out there, riding and having fun, while respecting other road users and pedestrians, it’s all good. if you want matching sneakers then that’s your prerogative. not my but of tea though.

I never really understood why people liked fixed gear so much, until i spent 30 min riding one.

Its a completely different feel and ride than any other kind of bike i’ve been on. And the ‘conection’ you feel between you the bike and the road cant be compared to any other ride.

I bought a fixie in the spring and love it! It’s a Giant Bowery Mashup 2010 it’s faster than my Specialized road bike. I find that most fixed gear bikes have awesome colors and wheels, They look great! Some people really do a great job with theirs 🙂

Hey theres a reason why some people also ride them too guys.. Its called IM BROKE. Sheesh, quit acting like ALL the trendy kids ride them. I refuse to be trendy. I am BROKE. Infact, I dont even have a bike yet. Bet you cant guess why??? Too expensive, but when I do, itll be a fixed gear cuz they are the cheapest I have found on the web. Oh lets not forget low maintenance too.

Wow – it’s a bit of a fad atm, but the bikes (type of bike) are old as hell. There are a few good points to them, less crap to break, optimized cadence, and strength training. Zimm, try one, very different from your gravity type bikes (DH/BMX)… oh, don’t be gay and have such rigid opinions about something you know nothing about “… since the road bike came out” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091814/
