This is one of my all time favorite Dunk mids to come out in the last year from Nike SB…this is the “Griptape” Dunk mid. The real appeal of this sneaker is its simplicity…it is a simple black, midtop sneaker and that is what people go crazy for…it isn’t always about the loud colorways and crazy looks. This is the perfect sneaker to skate in or just wear around.
The colorway shown here is whats called black and light graphite…along with the obvious white that goes around the sole. All three of these colors go really well together and complement each other nicely. The majority of the sneaker is a nice black suede, while the laces, swoosh and other minor details of the sneaker are a nice graphite color.
The purpose and inspiration behind these sneakers is to represent the griptape found on top of a skateboard. The toe caps, straps and area around the laces meant to represent this element of the skateboard. It consists of a rough texture, almost sandpaper like…any skateboarder should be able to pick up on the griptape reference to these sneakers immediately. I have seen many pros on the team skate in these sneakers…they look tight and skate just as well.
